LOTHIAN & BORDERS MINI
BANDS - PEEBLES
The
Grade 3 and Grade 4 bands had their first outing of
the season playing their new selections for the
coming season and although they never made the prize
list they gained valuable experience on the
competition front.
They faired better in the Solos when Leona Ryce came
1st in the under 14 novice March and Kerry Rintoul
took 3rd prize in the same section.
One
of our new members Susan Hazzard came 2nd in the
Open adult piping section.
-02/04/2007-RBLS 31st ANNUAL MINI-BAND
COMPETITION LASSWADE
The band represented the local
branch of The Royal British Legion at their first indoor
contest of the season and had an enjoyable and worthwhile
day out.
In
the Mini Band competition it was left to the Novice
band to carry the flag as both Grade4 and Grade 3
had to scratch due to key players having other
commitments and they came in 2nd place.
In
the chanter contest Rhiannon Cook took 4th.
The
Open Stick and Pad Contest was won by Jack McGregor
and Gary Neill was runner up.
While in the Solo Drumming Chloe Williamson won the
Under 16yrs Medley and Mark Armour was 2nd in the

- 10/09/2006 - PEEBLES
HIGHLAND GAMES,
The band finished the 2006
season with a trip to Peebles. The weather was especially
kind for September with the sun shining all day. Both bands
took part in the competition and the Grade 3 band took a 4th
prize in their Grade.
- 05/08/2006
- NORTH BERWICK GAMES,
Both bands competed at North Berwick Highland Games
which includes the Lothian and Borders Branch
confined Championships. Again we were spoiled with
some glorious sunshine and a bumper crowd. With a
fair sprinkling of good quality overseas bands it
was always going to be hard to get in the prize list
in the open section and this proved to be the case.
In
the confined contest the Grade 4 band came 4th and
the drummers produced their best performance yet to
win the drumming. the Grade 3 band finished 3rd in
Grade 3 and 4th in Grade 2.
- 29/07/2006
- EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS, GREENOCK
We
had the usual Championship weather at Greenock, fine
in the morning when the Grade 4 band played,
although they failed to qualify they gave an
improved performance and came 8th in their heat
which is encouraging.
The
Grade3 band played in the afternoon in the sunshine
before the rain wiped out the march past. A steady
performance against some stiff opposition saw them
out of the prize list, however the drum corps
continued with their consistency after the British
Championships and took the drumming honours.
- 22/07/2006
- AIRTH HIGHLAND GAMES
A break in the contest
timetable meant the band were able to take part in Airth
Highland Games. Due to holidays it was a mixture of both
bands who played in the street parade, then led Chieftain
Alex Totten round the arena in glorious sunshine. After
welcome refreshments the band played in the middle of the
arena to entertain the bumper crowd.

- FAIR E'EN & FAIR DAY MESSAGE
The band comprising of 16 pipers and 11 drummers
were out on the Fair E'en going round the arches.
Starting at 6:30 pm with our annual visit to Mac
Taggart & Mickel our major sponsors for a "meet the
neighbours party " at the Drum. Continuing on to
Carriden ,Bridgeness Road and Grangepans receiving
the customary refreshments and hospitality en route.
Kinglass the Queen Elects arch was our last port of
call at around 10:30pm.
First call of the day was 7:15am at the Learig then
marching up to Deanburn to the home of the vice
Chairman where we were given our Fair Breakfast.
Then it was on to Deanburn School to lead them in
procession to the Glebe Park for the Coronation. At
noon we rejoined the school to lead them in the
Grand Parade. It was an impressive sight marching
down the Wynd with 24 pipers and 15 drummers the
youngest being Cameron drum major 6 years old, Megan
piper 9 years old and Fair stalwart Willie 73years
old!!
Well done to all who took part and the inclement
weather did not dampen the spirits!!
- 25/06/2006
- BRITISH CHAMPIONSHIPS, PITLOCHRY
Both bands travelled
to the picturesque setting of Pitlochry for the
British Championships.
The Grade 4 band
failed to make the top six in a difficult section,
however the Grade 3 band showed a considerable
improvement from Innerleithen. The band produced
their best performance of the season to finish in
4th place but the drum corps went on to take top
honours in the drumming.
- 17/06/2006
- INNERLEITHEN HIGHLAND GAMES
The Grade3 band were
at the St Ronans festival at Innerleithen. There was
the biggest entry ever at this relatively new
competition, however there was no prizes in grade3
for us after a rather indifferent performance. 1st
were Royal Burgh of Annan, 2nd Linlithgow 3rd George
Watsons College and 4th Williamwood. With the same
bands playing up into Grade 2 and we moved up a
place into 4th behind GWC in 1st place Annan 2nd and
Williamwood 3rd.
The
Grade 4 band took a break from competing to make an
unannounced appearance at the home of Linlithgow
Gala Day Chief Lady Joanne. The band played at her
arch on Friday evening and then piped her to her
official car in the morning. Joanne is one of the
younger members of our drum corps.
