A Happy New Year to all our patrons.
Hopefully, this, our 12th year, will be as successful and
enjoyable as the previous eleven. In these times of recession,
many jazz clubs have had to close and jazz festivals cease to
function. The Edinburgh Jazz ‘n’ Jive Club is in the fortunate
position of being able to continue, thanks to the support of all
our members and visitors.
Brian Robertson’s Forth
River Ragtimers:
Some sad news. Brain
has decided that the time has come to disband the Forth River
Ragtimers. Brian and his band have been stalwart supporters of
the Club since its inception and will be sorely missed by one
and all. I have no doubt, however, that we will hear him and
other members of the band in other circumstances.
Guest Bands:
January 27, Nova Scotia
Jazz Band: a fitting
opening to the guest band list for the New Year, the Nova Scotia
Jazz Band will be making its 3rd appearance at the Club. In a
relatively short span of time, the NSJB has earned a great
reputation throughout the UK and Europe. Come along and listen
to some great Dixieland jazz played by six expert exponents of
the genre.
On February 17, Martin
Bennett’s Old Green River Band
makes a welcome return to the Club. Always guaranteed to
entertain and play some unusual numbers, you will not be
disappointed with what is bound to be an enjoyable programme of
swinging jazz.
March 17: Brian
Carrick’s Algiers Stompers:
This will be Brian’s first appearance at the Club for a number
of years. The Algiers Stompers evoke the music of the New
Orleans dance halls and the band is certain to please all who
love to dance. This is a terrific band and one not to be missed.
